Internship Program
CableLabs is an internationally recognized laboratory serving the global cable television industry. Engineers from among the most well-known telecommunications, consumer electronics and information technology companies come to our world-class laboratories to help shape technologies that are driving the broadband data, voice and video communications services of the future. Although we are recognized for our many technical achievements-the DOCSIS cable modem spec was born here-it's the caliber of our people and our culture that really stands out.

CableLabs recognizes the importance of establishing and maintaining close ties to the academic world. This is reflected through our intern program. We look for students who thrive in a diverse, technological environment and enjoy being challenged. Our program provides undergraduate and graduate students with exciting opportunities to gain valuable experience working with some of the brightest engineers and architects in a variety of positions at our facility in Louisville, Colorado, between Denver and Boulder.

While our intern program is targeted at summer internships with students typically working June through August, there is the opportunity, in some cases, for interns to continue on into the fall and/or spring semesters, depending upon the nature of the work being performed.

Working in CableLabs Projects
Our interns work in one or more of our challenging high-profile projects side-by-side with CableLabs technical staff as well as with senior engineers visiting from the telecommunications, consumer electronics and information technology industries. Interns may, for example, write and present research papers as well as gain broad exposure across CableLabs projects via regular interaction with other interns and staff, as well as our Executive VP/COO who, like our President/CEO, is very interested and involved in our program.

Activities
CableLabs understands that a successful intern program should include a diversity of activities which provide broad exposure to our employees, to the vendor community, and to other interns. Our activities include participation in our summer conference, working lunches with our CEO and COO, visits to local cable systems, vendor presentations and workshops. Interns also participate in company-sponsored social events such as our summer and fall barbecues. These are all great opportunities to learn as well as to network with others in the industry.

Prerequisites
Positions are available for both graduate and undergraduate students (junior or senior) with one or more of the following academic concentrations:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Software Engineering/Development
  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Telecommunications
Additionally, qualified students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and be a demonstrated self-starter with a strong work ethic, willing to work 40 hours per week at our labs. Specific technical knowledge/skill requirements will vary depending upon the project to which the student is assigned. All interns will be expected to provide their own transportation.
