CableLabs® Forms Bandwidth Modeling and Management Forum

CableLabs® and its member companies recently announced the formation of the Bandwidth Modeling and Management Vendor Forum that establishes a venue where CableLabs members can discuss upcoming bandwidth modeling and management requirements with vendors. This forum also will provide a place where vendors can meet with members to discuss bandwidth management practices and new system capabilities.

The forum is part of an existing CableLabs project aimed at identifying and developing vendor products that allow cable companies to model and manage bandwidth utilization of cable-based network services—services considered include audio, video, high-speed data, and telephony. One aspect of this project is the creation of the Bandwidth Modeling and Management Vendor Forum.

Companies interested in participating in this forum should contact Terry Shaw, Director of Network Systems, at CableLabs, 303.661.9100, or t.shaw@cablelabs.com.

CableLabs and its members intend to work closely with technology suppliers to develop bandwidth modeling and management solutions that can assist cable operators in delivering cable-based services with carrier-grade quality solutions.

Once modeling and management solutions that work well for cable-based services have been developed, CableLabs will encourage any interested vendor to use these solutions in manufacturing products. Because this technology is still in the development stage, this project will not result in an approved list of vendors, nor will there be purchasing recommendations. CableLabs members will make individual selections of vendors with which to proceed.

CableLabs members, including AT&T Broadband, Adelphia Cable, Armstrong, Chambers Communications, Charter Communications, Classic Cable, Comcast Corporation, Rogers Cablesystems, and Time Warner Cable, are supporting this effort.
