David Reed Promoted to Chief Strategy Officer at CableLabs®

Louisville, Colorado, March 24, 2004—CableLabs® has promoted Dr. David Reed to Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer, as part of several organizational changes effective March 15.

In his new role, Reed “will be able to devote much more of his time and his outstanding expertise to the development of our forward strategy both for our technical initiatives and for the cable industry,” said CableLabs President and CEO Dr. Richard R. Green, to whom Reed will report. Reed also will remain responsible for the Strategic Assessment (SA) Department.

CableLabs also reorganized its PacketCable™ Department, renaming it to Advanced Network Systems (ANS) in recognition of the expanding scope of activities related to the core PacketCable™ initiative, and elevating Ed Miller to Vice President Advanced Network Systems as leader of the overall effort. Miller, who recently returned to CableLabs as a Chief Network Architect in the SA Department, had led the PacketCable effort in its early days. Miller will report to CableLabs Chief Operating Officer Chris Lammers. Said Green, “We are indeed fortunate to have in Ed Miller an individual experienced not only in project management, but also possessing a deep expertise in and understanding of both IP and circuit switched telephony, as well as advanced digital networks.”

Glenn Russell, who had led PacketCable as its director through initial product certifications and qualifications, returns to a role as an individual contributor as Director, Multimedia Applications. “Having achieved success in building the PacketCable team and leading its initial certification efforts, Glenn has decided to return to the role of individual contributor—one in which he excelled in the past—initially focused on PacketCable Multimedia,” Green said.

Also as part of the reorganization, Go2BroadbandSM (G2B) will leave the Strategic Assessment Department and Vice President Jenifer Cistola also now will report to CableLabs COO Lammers. Several of CableLabs projects, including PacketCable, CableHome™ and G2B, have begun as key efforts in SA and expanded into initiatives.
